Christmas puppy, New Year problems
So, you have received a puppy for Christmas. Congratulations on the new furry arrival to your family. A seasonal puppy can bring much holiday joy as you and the dog settle in during the holidays.
But if you are reading this article, you have probably realised (or are realising) that your present puppy has many gaps in its limited training!
Here are three simple actions you can take to ensure your new dog’s training and enrichment needs are met.
Consider your budget
Gift or not, your puppy has many needs you need to ensure you take care of. Everything your dog will need is going to have a price tag attached so now is the perfect time to consider pet insurance vs self-funding, pick a cost-effective food, and research the medical conditions your dog’s breed may encounter in later life to ensure you are prepared.
There are of course many ways to save money on your dog’s care.
Plan your post-holiday routine.
Do you work from home and have the availability for a between-meeting walk? Or are you a shift worker with a varying schedule? If the latter, you can add some consistency to your dog’s day by booking them into a doggy daycare. Focus On Dog Training recommends Bailey and Zoey’s. If paid care is not in your budget, consider arranging for a friend or family member to drop by during the day.
Whether the big man in red left you a puppy under the tree or you decided to get a dog for the family – the holiday season is a beautiful time to bond. Just be sure not to forget to plan your new life together.
