A Werribee family had a 3-year-old Golden Retriever who was friendly at home but reactive on walks when seeing other dogs and highly excitable when visitors arrived to the house.
The Behaviour Challenges
Pippa’s owners were dealing with lead pulling, growling at other dogs on walks and difficulty settling when guests visited. Group classes hadn’t addressed these behaviours in real-world situations and puppy school was not effective.
The Outcome & Progres
Pippa learnt to control her explosive behaviour on walks when coming across other dogs. This result was stress test and successful with majority of dogs but Pippa will benefit from ongoing exposure, Head Trainer, Daniel recommending further walks around the Werribee area.
A range of leash options were also explored during Pippa’s In-home session and the right fit was achieved. This will benefit both Pippa and her owners when walking.
Pippa can now be calm when visitors arrive and during her training session learnt the ‘place’ command. Her owners are continuing to practice this and learnt how best to reward Pippa for success (Pippa likes Prime100 treats carried by Daniel)!
