Frozen Kong, the ultimate summer dog treat

I have talked endlessly about the humble Kong and its versatility as a training exercise, treat dispenser, and enrichment tool. This summer, we will revisit the Kong’s benefits by stuffing it full of our dogs’ best treats and freezing it.

What can I put in my dog’s Kong? 

The options are endless. Some of my Labrador’s household favourites that freeze well include

  • Blueberries
  • Pumpkin (cooked)
  • Diced apple
  • Leftover chicken breast
  • Banana
  • Cooked rice

Why frozen? 

Once solid and icy, your dog’s Kong can be a cool and comforting treat on a hot day. It can also be used to entertain your dog whilst you are out of the home, reducing boredom and opportunities to bark or cause destruction. Above all else, your dog will enjoy the challenge of trying to extract their food from the Kong.

 

 

How many frozen Kong’s can my dog have a day? 

Limit to one a few times a week. The volume of food in a Kong means it is a treat only.
